Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist is a novel written by English author Charles Dickens. It was published in 1838. The first edition was titled: Oliver Twist; or, The Parish Boy's Progress. The main characters are Oliver Twist, Fagin, Mr. Brownlow and Mrs. Maylie.

This story takes place in the streets of a small town and it is about a small boy with a big heart, who escapes from a workhouse and who is an ordinary person caught up in events. After escaping from a workhouse he decided to travel to London. During his journey Oliver meets the Artful Dodger, a nice boy who offers his help. Oliver is taken to a run-down house occupied by Fagin and his boys. Then Oliver understands that he gets into the rites of pickpocketing. His first theft is not a success and he is caught by the police. Mr. Brownlow, the victim of the pickpocketing, takes pity on him and takes him into his own home. The end of the novel is sort of a "happily ever after"-ending, but I like that sort of thing.

In my opinion, it is very exciting book. It is really worth reading, especially if you like to read about children and their adventures. Unfortunately, nowadays this book is not very popular, but Charles Dickens is a great person and I do not regret tha i have read this book.

Reflections of my home

It is our intention to send our leaflets containing articles and images of Estonia to Scotland. People will read our leaflets and get an impression of the Estonian life and traditions.

When people think of Estonia, they immediately think of The Tartu University, The Old Town, The Baltic Sea. So we felt it was important to show the monument "Rusalka" which was built in memory of the ship which sank because it is an important part of Estonian history. Wee agreed that we should also include The Song and Dance Festival and short articles about it because it says something about Estonian culture.

As a group, we did not think it would be a good idea to include shopping because in every country there are different shops, but in Estonia we do not have a large selection of shops. We were all determined to include some bands and we made a unanimious decision to include this because Estonian bands play a very good music.

Finally, we decided to include pistures and short articles about our school in the leaflets because it is a very popular school and it gives a very good education. We also felt that it was important to show that life in Estonia is very calm, but at the same time very interesting. And there is a lot of events for teenagers, which makes it such an interesting place.
